Awake

Okay, so this is my first ever blog, and I am currently writing at 2 in the morning, which really isn't wise as I am currently on study leave and I should be sleeping so I can actually have some energy for tomorrow to revise, but I'm not. I did try, but... I failed, so here I am. It was actually an old friend of mind who said I should create a blog to share my thoughts and poems, that apparently it'd be fun and people would be interested. To be perfectly honest, I was particularly dismissive, but at this stupid o clock, it seems like it might be a good idea after all. I used to write a diary, not that this is the same thing, but it might be nice to write again. Anyway, stop rambling now Jessica. This first post is supposed to be about the fact I've just written a new poem. I used to write a lot of poetry, on and off, throughout Year 12 and the start of Year 13, but this is the first one I've written in a while in my sleepless state, so I thought I'd share it.

Awake?

It's like putting on glasses, from distortion to clear
But you're still that unsure, still full of fear
Solving a mystery but without all the clues
Knowing an answer, not wanting to choose
Finding the key which breaks in the lock
Knowing the time without any clock
A broken rope which has no end
A winding corner without the bend
Thinking you found it, but it's a trick of the eye
Going away without saying goodbye
Having the words, but nothing to say
Loosing your faith, yet wanting to pray
A task with a purpose, lost on a path
Running the water without a bath
A sleepless night with pleasant dreams
A tearless child who yells and screams
Fighting back without the will
Taking fresh cash from an empty till
Sitting inside a waiting game
Hating the winner and all the fame.

So yeah. Sort of rambled it off in 10 minutes or so really with a few alterations. Not really sure what it means myself, but I just kind of felt like writing, when I haven't in a while, which I like. So for anyone who reads it, I hope you enjoy it. I like to think that the poems I write make you think and relate things to your own life. That's what I generally do with writing anyway. I should probably try to get some sleep now, as I do actually want to get into Uni in October ha. Bye for now.

great poem! I loved it, im a huge fan of poetry, and have joined some poetry sits where I post my stuff. Your poem is amazing! I loved it, quite a few oxymoron's, it was like you were trying to say that reality, "wakefulness" isn't all it is made up to be, what we are seeing is only just the surface there is actually so much more. Great job!

I actually don't think I could have summed it up better myself - reality isn't all it's made up to be. It is very true.
I've written quite a few poems, of which I shall start posting up, maybe one every few blogs, so feel free to follow :)
I'd like to read some of your poems though! I love that they are just so personal.
