Dreams

Well, I slept completely crap last night and when I woke up this morning I was doing a lot of thinking, particularly about dreams.

Last night, I didn't actually have a dream, well I must have as we're supposed to have *googles it* 'Most people over the age of 10 dream at least 4 to 6 times per night during called REM.' but I did not have one which I remember. However, some nights I will wake up vividly remembering dreams, crammed with details, wanting to recount them endlessly for anyone who will listen. On a school day (which I no longer have anymore *does little happy dance*) I would retell my dream or dreams to Francesca, a very good friend of mine, whilst we sat in the library with 40 minutes until class started. I'd then go and get the 'Dream Dictionary' from the shelf close to our table and look up the key parts of my dream.

To be honest, I was never really sure why I did it. The answers were very cliche as you can expect. If I dreamt about running away, then it'd claim I was running away from problems in my life - wow. statetheobvious.com. Nevertheless, it became part of a weekly ritual. At the weekends, I'd stumble down the stairs and in my half awake state ready to relay my dreams to my Mum. There was a point where I remembered my dreams really clearly everyday and she just didn't want to listen anymore:

'I had a really weird dream again last night'

'Eurgh... again.'

'*Starts to tell dream*

'Okay that's irrelevant, I don't need to know the colour of your clothes, can't you just sum it up in a sentence'

So dreams obviously do not interest everyone. I'd gotten to thinking about them again recently because of one that really freaked my friend out and she'd had trouble sleeping. It just shows how much a subconscious message can affect somebody, I knew mine used to even though it wasn't anything chilling like hers.

When I was going through my old documents - instead of revising - I found a dream I had written down which I must have sat and contemplated at the time (July 2008) because it's such a long detailed description. I had a few others, but they were just jotting down the main outline (Mum style) when I started to remember what had kept happening in my recent dreams. I'd start to lose my sight, but then it'd come back. It was rather strange and a horrible feeling. I usually dream about people I really care about and the situation is always complicated and I wake up without a resolution leaving me feeling unsettled throughout the day. Although I'm not sure if that is more or less annoying than the dreams that you sort of half remember but you can't quite put everything in order and there are bits missing to the story.

I think dreams are strange, sometimes I like to think that they mean something but this will only be when in my dream something happens which I know can never in real life and I wish it to so for times like that I believe 'A dream is a wish your heart makes, when you're fast asleep' (true disney style - stealing lyrics from Cinderella). Yet then again, it's just not realistic really, and I'd certainly hope not with some of the weird things I dream about!

Dreams. I shall no doubt continue to dwell on them for years to come, wishing that they did actually have some kind of meaning sometimes. Then again, a couple of nights ago I remember in my dream having a burning desire to go and see the new Toy Story 3 - which don't get me wrong, I'm sure will be great, but I don't care all that much and hadn't planned to go see it!

Sometimes you'll have to walk out of dreams, let go of them and open up to the warm sunshine. But do dream, in the starry night :)

Dreams are the gateway to our subconscious minds, the part us us we still don't fully understand. We had an entire discussion about dreams, and analyzing the subconscious in my religion class one day, dreams truly are fascinating!
I'm the same way, my friends and I are always telling each other the dreams we had, I used to pop open my dream dictionary as well, not so much anymore.

Insomniac... Yeah, I think I've always been fascinated by them, especially as it's something that you can't control.
I mean, obviously during life there are external events beyond our control, but when we're asleep they are of no consequence so it's always interesting to think why am I dreaming about such things?
I haven't done R.S since Year 8 properly, as my old school was a school for the performing arts and we didn't really focus on academics and then when I left, I didn't know enough about the subject to take it up at GCSE so I missed out on such discussions.
I don't actually own my own dream dictionary, but I feel I might actually be sad enough to invest in one soon ha, but I doubt it'll tell me why I dreamt my friend was riding on a dolphin or me running a race at primary school!

ET... ironic. My childhood nickname ha - big eyes and apparently not very attractive in Year 7 so I got stuck with that alien name, I really liked your comment. It made me smile :)

I like to think of dreams as TV shows (if they're short) or movies (if they're long and I remember them). It's happened so many times that I've missed an episode or/and my favourite movies.
Some people say they're a part of your subconcious so according to this book by Rhonda Byrne 'The Secret' you can make your dreams come true if you focus on them(obviously if only u can recall a dream the next morning) and make them your dominant thought. If you're interested in the book I can email it to you.
